The major composition of NdFeB magnets is Nd2Fe14B, which this material is developed in year 1983. NdFeB magnets have the highest magnetic properties among other permanent magnet materials.
NdFeB magnets have very high magnetic properties. Their (BH)max value is 3 to 10 times higher than sintered ferrite magnets. Hci value is 5 to 10 times higher than sintered ferrite magnets and 5 to 15 times higher than AlNiCo magnets. The potential magnetic properties of NdFeB magnets are very high. Theoretically, their (BH)max value can be as high as 527 KJ/M3 (66 MGOe). They can even attract object which weight is 640 times higher than themselves.
Since the major raw material Fe is very cheap. The capacity of another major raw material Nd is 10 to 16 times higher than Sm on earth. So the price of NdFeB magnets is lower than SmCo magnets.
The mechanical property of NdFeB magnets is better than SmCo magnets and AlNiCo magnets. They can be cut and drilled easily.
The temperature properties of NdFeB magnets are low co***re with other magnets. The maximum working temperature is usually 80 oC. However we can make the maximum working temperature to be as high as 180 oC after special treatment.
NdFeB magnets are very easy to get rusted. So they must be protected using special coating, such as Zn, Ni, Au, Epoxy.
The major applications of NdFeB magnets are motors, lourdspeakers, toys and magnetic systems. |
